Here are ways you can be part of the excitement this Summer!
At the heart to every Games are thousands of dedicated volunteers who help to provide the best Ontario Games experience for athletes, coaches and guests. Volunteers will be needed to plan and support both sporting and cultural events before and during the Ontario Parasport Games in May as well as the Ontario Summer Games in July.
How do I sign-up to volunteer for the Games?
An online registration system for volunteers will be made available. The Games will review all volunteer registrations and begin offering positions closer to the Games.
What will I be doing as a volunteer? Can I choose what sport I volunteer at?
Through your registration form you will be able to indicate the type of position/sports you are interested in volunteering with, skills you may be able to offer and your availability. Based on the information you provide while registering, the Games will do their best to offer you a position of interest and that best suits your skill set.
Training will be provided to all volunteers prior to the Games.
Is there a deadline to apply to volunteer?
No. However, volunteer registration may close without notice once all volunteer positions have been filled.
Is there a minimum number of hours/days I need to volunteer?
Yes we expect a minimum of 12 hours for OPG and 16 hours for OSG, however in most cases preference will be given to volunteers who can commit the most amount of hours/days.
Will a meal be provided during my shift?
All volunteers working four consecutive hours or more will be entitled to a meal.
I require an accommodation, can I still volunteer?
The City of Mississauga is committed to be an inclusive and barrier-free organization. In accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 and the Ontario Human Rights Code, the City will provide accommodations to applicants with disabilities. Please advise of any accommodation(s) that you may require via email to: Games.Volunteer@mississauga.ca and we will work with you to meet your needs
Is there a minimum or maximum age to volunteer?
Volunteer positions are available for 16 years of age and older and 18 years of age and older. You must be 16 years or older as of May 2, 2022 to volunteer for the ParaSport Games and you must be 16 years or older as of July 4, 2022 to volunteer for the Ontario Summer Games.
Do I have to get a background check completed?
Yes, volunteers will be required to have an updated Criminal Record Check, so that the City may consider your suitability for the volunteer position. Under 18 years old requires a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJM). 18 years of age and older requires a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC). To avoid any recruitment delays, volunteers are urged to process their applicable Criminal Record Check as soon as possible.
Currently, masking is no longer required, however volunteers may choose to wear a mask if they wish to do so. In accordance with the Volunteer Management Program Standards, all new volunteers must provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 or confirmation of a creed or medical exemption before their first shift.
When will I know if I have been selected?
Volunteers will be selected on a rolling basis. A member of the Games will contact you with more information regarding your role once you have been selected.
Do I have to attend a training session?
Yes, all volunteers are required to complete one on-line training session and attend one pre-Games volunteer training session, area specific in person training.
Who do I contact if I have volunteer questions?
If you have any questions email Games.Volunteer@mississauga.ca
Will the Games cover my expenses to volunteer (transportation, parking, accommodations)?
No, all volunteers are responsible for their own expenses.
I registered to volunteer, but my availability has changed or I am no longer available to volunteer. What should I do?
Please contact Games.Volunteer@mississauga.ca to inform the Games of your change in availability.
Can volunteer hours from the Games be used towards my high school diploma?
Yes, but you should confirm this with your school as the approval of community service hours is at the principal’s discretion.
